VAKKO HERITAGE

1934The story begins with Şen Şapka (“Merry Hats”), a small millinery shop started by Vitali Hakko, leading to 75 years of success.
1938Şen Şapka is renamed Vakko, and sets up Turkey’s first’s silk dyeing workshop in Kurtuluş, İstanbul, where the foundations of Vakko’s unrivalled expertise are laid.
1962The first Vakko store opens in Beyoğlu, the heart of Istanbul. Complete with a cafe and gallery, the 8-floor store is the largest of its kind in Turkey at the time, and is followed by two similar flagship stores in Ankara and Izmir.
1969The Vakko Factory is built in Merter, with an indoor area of 40,000 m2. Featuring an art gallery with paintings and sculptures by renowned Turkish artists, the factory features silk printing workshops as well as facilities for the production of men’s and women’s ready to wear garments and shoes.
1973The second Vakko store opened in Ankara, and Vakko started expanding its retail network with consequent Vakko Butik sales points.
1979The Vakko İzmir store opened. Country-wide advertising campaigns and regular fashion shows began to strengthen the recognition of the Vakko brand.
1981In honor of the Centennary of Atatürk’s birth, Vakko stages “Anatolian Sun”, a stunning fashion and art show, in Rome, Vienna, Brussels, Paris and London.
1982Turkey’s first youth garment store Vakkorama opens in İstanbul. A concept store Incorporating music, art and sport events, Vakkorama soon becomes a center of attraction for young people.
1988Vakko celebrates its 50th anniversary by refreshing its brand identity. The elegant yet dynamic Vakko logo, still in use today, was designed by renowned English designer Sir Terence Conran.
1989With Vakko Superfine, Vakko becomes the first fashion brand in Turkey to produce chocolate, pioneering the birth of chocolate culture in the country.
1990With the launch of Katia, Vakko becomes the first fashion house in Turkey with its signature perfume. Katia is followed by two other perfumes: V de Vakko and Piu Piu.
1992The Power FM radio station begins broadcasting nationwide, as a subsidiary of Vakko, with a mission to bring quality music to the country.
1993The story continues with the introduction of Vakko Boutique Concept, focusing on its own line of shirts, ties and scarves, produced with the ultimate Vakko equality.
1994The Vakko Akmerkez store opened.
1997The Vakko Suadiye store opened.
1998Vakko had its initial public offering.
1998Vakko Wedding is introduced, offering wedding dress and accessory collections by top international designers. Vakko designs staff uniforms for Turkish Airlines and the official formal wear for the Turkish national football team.
1998After Power FM, which went on to become Turkey's most popular radio station, Power XL was established.

2000The Vakko Duty-Free Store opened.
2000The multi brand fashion concept sore V2K designers opens its doors, featuring the latest in the world of fashion with seasonal collections of international designers.
2000The first Cakko Golf Cup was held.
2001PowerTürk, a radio station broadcasting Turkis pop music, was established.
2001Vakko Wedding is introduced, offering a unique wedding concept and accessory collections by top international designers.
2001The exhibition 'Hayatım Vakko' opened its doors to art lovers at the Vakko Beyoğlu Store.
2002Despite the economical crisis that shakes Turkey, Vakko continues to grow, and launches a menswear brand, W Collection, The brand quickly expands to feature 25 stores nationwide.
2003PowerTürk TV, a music television channel, was establieshed. All radio and television stations were consolidated at the Power Media Center.
2003With the opening of Vakko Boutique stores in Frankfurt and Hamburg, Vakko took its first steps outside Turkey.
2004The Vakkorama H2O brand was established, bringing a fresh outlook to beach fashion with its colorful swimsuit collection.
2004Wedding dresses by world renowned designer Vera Wang were featured at Vakko Wedding.
2005The Vakko Sailing Cup '05 was held.
2005Vakko Cruise was established, presenting unique designs for boats and yachts.
2005Vakko Shoes & Bags, Vakko Wedding and Vakko Couture stores opened in Nişantaşı. Vakkorama V2K stores opened in Nişantaşı and Ankara.
2006Turley's first comprehensive and legal music downloading platform Power Club was established.
2006Vakko opens a series of concept stores, Vakko Wedding, Vakko Couture and Vakko Shoes & Bags, showcasing renowned designers and brands of the fashion world.
2006The Zac Posen Vakko label is established, in collaboration with renowned American fashion designer Zac Posen.
2006Top model Gisele Bündchen became the new face of Vakko.
2007The Vakkorama V2K brand identity was renamed as V2K designers.
2008The Vakko factory at Merter moves to Esenyurt, and renamed as the Vakko Esenyurt Production Center, featuring state-of-the-art production technology.
2009Vakko Home is established, introducing timeless collections for homes and gardens with the unique signature of Vakko.

2011Fashion meets architecture: Vakko moves to its new headquarters, the winner of many architecture awards, including the “Workspace of the Year” award by renowned design magazine Wallpaper.
2011Vakko revisits its millinery roots: The exhibition “Stephen Jones and the Accent of Fashion” by world renowned hat designer Stephen Jones opened at the Vakko Fashion Center, following the world’s top museums. İstancool, a festival of culture and the arts, is held for the first time with the sponsorship of Vakko.

2012Immortalizing the name of Vakko’s founder, the Vitali Hakko Creative Industries Library is established at the Vakko Fashion Center, home to a large collection of books that introduce readers to the creative worlds of fashion, the fine arts, architecture, photography and cinema.
2013The Vakko Esmod Fashion School is established to help educate the future generation of fashion designers, in collaboration with Esmod, the world’s longest established fashion school.
2013Vakko opens a 4000 m2 store at the Zorlu Center.
2013The Vakko Fashion Center was selected as the 'World's Best Office Building' at the Architizer A+ Awards.
2014The Vakko Akasya Store opened.
2014Vakko Mare is established, bringing together renowned brands of world beach fashion.
2015V2K designers corners were established at Vakko stores.
2015The Vakko Fashion Center is awarded the “Honorary Award” by the Design Awards held by the American Institute of Architects (AIANY) to award excellence in design.
2015A survey by DORinsight marks Vakko as the most prominent Turkish brand associated with luxury.
