THE STORY OF TEA
The story of tea begins 5000 years ago in China, with a coincidence... Chinese emperor Shennong believed that boiled water was good for health, and even issued a decree for it. As he drank boiled water under a tree one day, a leaf fell into his cup and the water changed color. Drinking the water with the diffusing leaf in it, the emperor noticed its refreshing quality, and thereby discovered tea. With this discovery, the Chinese people celebrate Shennong as the originator of the medical and agricultural industries. According to books of the period, tea was a symbol of luxury and prosperity. When three Japanese buddhists took tea seeds from China’s Tang region to their country, tea made its first journey across borders and continued to be consumed as a symbol of luxury.
Europe was introduced to tea through Dutch and Portugese explorers and merchants. Brought into the country by merchants, tea saw great interest in Holland and its fame soon spread to Europe. England first started importing tea from China in the 17th century. The first tea store was established by Thomas Twinning in England in 1706.SHOP VAKKO TEA
